The Navy wants the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance drone to fly 15 missions each month, up from nine with the goal of increasing monitoring activities in the Middle East, Northrop said Wednesday.
Mike Mackey, Northrop program director for the Triton UAV program, said the Navy has flown the BAMS-D aircraft since 2009.
BAMS-D is modeled off the Global Hawk drone and recorded 10, 000 flight hours in April.
Northrop built the maritime drone to operate for more than 24 hours at high altitude.
