Dr. Rick McGeer, formerly a principal scientist and research manager at HP Labs (NYSE: HPQ), has been appointed to serve as a distinguished technologist for HP Enterprise Services‘ U.S. public sector group.
McGeer will focus primarily on the group’s Navy and Marine Corps accounts and promote HP technologies, techniques and approaches to customers, the company said Monday.
While at HP Labs, he co-led projects to design and implement cloud computing architecture and also worked on the first commercial switch implementation of OpenFlow.
He has written more than 100 papers and one book in fields such as computer-aided design, circuit theory, programming languages, information system design and secure systems.
McGeer also holds nine patents in fields such as programming languages, circuit design, natural-language processing, security systems and switching systems.
