Rockwell Collins Forms Aircraft Surveillance Tech JV in China; Kent Statler Comments

Rockwells Collins logo_GovConWireRockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) has formed a joint venture with a China-based electronics research institute to develop, manufacture and supply surveillance equipment for Comac C919 commercial airliners.

AVIC Leihua Rockwell Collins Avionics Co. was created with the China Leihua Electronic Technology Research Institute, a unit of the Aviation Industry Corp. of China, Rockwell Collins said Monday.

Kent Statler, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Rockwell Collins’ commercial systems business, said the joint venture aims to support China’s C919 program and the country’s aviation industry.

Executives from both companies attended a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday in the city of Wuxi to mark the venture’s official opening.

Rockwell Collins has worked with Chinese aviation companies and suppliers for 30 years.

The company’s electronic products are installed in China-built Y8, ARJ21, MA60/600 and AC352 planes.
