Michel de Rosen, chief executive at Eutelsat,  has been elected as the new chairman of the European Satellite Operators Association board.

He will replace Telenor CEO Cato Halsaa, ESOA said Tuesday.

De Rosen said he will continue Halsaa’s projects to “ensure recognition of the role of satellites” by establishing how widespread radio frequencies usage is and by encouraging debate on what spectrum is appropriate for which service.

“In 2013, the European Commission is taking concrete steps to facilitate the rollout of satellite broadband in support of the Digital Agenda 2013 target of broadband for all, ” de Rosen added.

Intelsat CEO Dave McGlade was reelected as first vice chairman and Inmarsat CEO Rupert Pearce, second vice chairman.

Established in 2002, ESOA serves as European satellite companies’ representative to the European Commission, European Council, European Parliament and European Space Agency.
