Lockheed Wins $315M for 2 NOAA Weather Satellites

LockheedLogoLockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has won two contract options worth approximately $315 million combined to build two weather monitoring satellites for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Space News reports.

John Leslie, an agency spokesman, told Space News the option for Geostationary-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite-T is worth $175.9 million, while GOES-U carries a $139.7 million value.

Dan Leone writes the company is building four satellites for the GOES-R program under a contract awarded in 2008 and potentially worth more than $1 billion with options.

Leone reports the GOES-R and GOES-S satellites are scheduled to launch in 2015 and 2017, respectively.

GOES-T and GOES-U are slated to lift off in 2019 and 2024, according to Space News.
