The Department of Homeland Security has started the process to award a potential $100 million contract covering biometric identification cards for federal government workers, Nextgov reports.

Aliya Sternstein writes DHS plans to replace 161, 924 cards in 2013 and 116, 172 cards in 2014 under the program.

The contractor will be responsible for enrolling employees and synchronizing card readers on facilities and computers with the credentialing process, according to the report.

DHS also wants 16, 000 personal computers that connect to a credential management computer program so workers can independently update their identification data and reset passwords, Sternstein reports.
