Raytheon Wins $82M to Build AF Decoy, Radar Jam Units; Harry Schulte Comments

Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon (NYSE: RTN) has won a $81.7 million contract option from the U.S. Air Force to build and deliver 202 jammers and containers intended to function as decoys during combat.

The firm-fixed-price option covers lot six on the lot five contract and includes a 10-year warranty on the MALD-J units, Raytheon said Monday.

Harry Schulte, vice president of air warfare systems in Raytheon’s missile systems business, said MALD-J equipment is intended to use jamming and radar signature technology for disrupting enemy air defense systems.

MALD-J systems adds jamming features to MALD vehicles, Schulte said.

Weighing at less than 300 pounds, MALD flight vehicles are designed to duplicate combat flight profiles and signatures of both U.S. and allied aircraft.

The vehicles are also built to fly at ranges of up to 575 miles, according to Raytheon.
