General Dynamics to Build Abrams Tank System Spares; Graz Graziano Comments

GDlogoGeneral Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) land systems business unit has won a three-year contract from the Defense Logistics Agency to build spare parts for two types of Abrams battle tanks.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract is worth up to $9.5 million and work started immediately upon the award, General Dynamics said Thursday.

Under the contract, the company will manufacture M1A2 system enhancement packages for versions one and two of the Abrams.

Abrams SEP v1 and v2 tanks contain command and control systems and thermal sights.

“The Defense Logistics Agency has a strategic goal of reducing costs by $10 billion in five years, ” said Graz Graziano, vice president of combat support and sustainment for the land systems business.

The company will build the parts at its Scranton, Penn. manufacturing facility and employees at the force protection business in Ladson, S.C. will be responsible for managing the program.
