BAE to Convert Army Tanks For $2B Hercules Program; Mark Signorelli Comments

BAE-systems-logo_GovConWireBAE Systems has won a $28.7 million contract to convert 11 medium recovery vehicles into new configurations intended to help the U.S. Army recover 70-ton vehicles.

This award increases the total value of BAE’s contracts for the Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lift and Evacuation System vehicles program to $2.1 billion, the company said Wednesday.

BAE will convert 11 M88A1 medium recovery vehicles to the M88A2 Hercules configuration under the most recent award and will deliver the upgraded vehicles to the Army by March 2014, the company says.

Mark Signorelli, vice president and general manager of armored combat systems, said the M88A2 is designed to hoist and two twice the weight than that of an M88A1.

The company has delivered 575 Hercules vehicles to the Army and 84 to the Marine Corps to date and the Army plans to acquire 632 vehicles under the program.

BAE will install new braking, steering, winching, hoisting and horsepower systems on the upgraded vehicles.
