Report: Singapore To Announce Lockheed F-35 Jet Buy

LockheedLogoSingapore will announce within the next 10 days that it plans to buy its first 12 Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) F-35 jets out of 75 planes the country plans to purchase.

Colin Clark writes Singapore could be choosing the short takeoff and vertical landing variant to operate with the U.S. Marine Corps‘ fleet of F-35Bs and the F-35Cs, designed to takeoff and land on U.S. aircraft carriers.

Australia plans to purchase between 50 and 100 of the conventional takeoff and landing variant F-35s, Clark writes.

Japan announced in June 2012 that it also planned to buy 42 F-35As for up to $10 billion.

Clark reports Mistubishi Heavy Industries is expected to construct an F-35 construction plant as the U.S. is aiming to have a global supply chain for the jet.
