BAElogoBAE Systems has won a $28 million production order to build combat helmets for the U.S. Marine Corps.

The company has provided more than 800, 000 helmets have been fielded to U.S. Marines and soldiers since 1986, the company said.

Eric Gavelda, director of warfighter protection in BAE’s protection systems business, said the company will continue producing the helmets into 2014.

BAE will produce the helmets out of its Jessup, Pa. facility, where it also makes combat helmets and combat vehicle crewman helmets for the Army.

The Army’s Aberdeen Test Center has certified the Marine Corps helmet as meeting standards for ballistic, structural and non-ballistic impact testing
