DLT Solutions has appointed former Transportation Department official Don Simpson vice president of the company’s professional services business unit, the company said Tuesday.

DLT said Simpson joins the company as it is expanding the unit to include engineers and staff focused on Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) technology consulting and service delivery including core technology, E-business products, identity management and value-added applications.

Rick Marcotte, DLT’s president and CEO, said the company’s move to expand the unit is aimed at providing a new platform for future growth.

“We are seeing a shift in the dynamics of the IT services market, particularly the core federal space, due to agencies with lean budgets looking for simple, turnkey solutions that are easy to procure and install, ” he said.

Simpson said DLT’s consulting staff will work with clients in the design, delivery and management phases of information technology projects.

Before joining the company, Simpson served as chief information officer for the Transportation Department’s research and innovative technology administration.

According to DLT, he brings 15 years experience of corporate IT and consulting in the aerospace, telecommunications, defense and high-technology industries.

DLT provides agencies consulting services for technology provided by Symantec (NASDAQ: SYMC), NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) and Quantum as well as post-implementation support through its technical support center.

Services include disaster recovery, backup, IT security, monitoring, storage optimization, data archiving, electronics records management and discovery and data migration.
