DHS Planning $3.1B Biodetection System Contract

BioHazardThe Department of Homeland Security is preparing a potential five-year, $3.1 billion contract for biodetectors that monitor air of large U.S. cities for biological threats, Homeland Security Today reports.

Mickey McCarter writes DHS released a draft request for proposals Friday and the department could release the final RFP in the third quarter of 2013.

Citing a Deltek summary, HS Today reports the BioWatch Gen-3 program would also have contractors provide DHS information technology infrastructure, equipment, consumables and technical support for the network.

McCarter writes awardees would be responsible for installing, collectng and moving collectors and filters from sites to BioWatch laboratories in order to prepare and analyze samples, report results and respond to positive results.
