Verizon, AT&T to Provide DISA iPads for Mobility Test

The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded contracts to Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T) for Apple and Samsung mobile devices, Federal News Radio reports.

Jason Miller reports DISA made the purchase with aims at expanding its program to acquire commercial mobile devices.

According to Nextgov, the agency acquired the iPad 3s, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tablets and air time for a Defense Department mobility test scheduled to run through March 2013.

In August, DISA announced it was working to form a request for proposals for a mobile application store and device management software to support its mobility program.

Bob Brewin reports for Nextgov that John Hickey, DISA program manager for mobility, has said the test will include a mobile device management system and a mobile app store with between 10 and 12 apps.
