Thales Wins $213M for Navy Radios

Thales Communications has won a $213.5 million contract to provide the U.S. Navy radios, training and support equipment, the Defense Department announced Tuesday.

The Navy will determine work location with each individual order under the firm-fixed-price contract and the Pentagon expects work to finish by Aug. 30, 2017.

Earlier this month, the Pentagon announced Thales and Harris Corp. (NYSE: HRS) as awardees on a potential $1.35 billion Navy contract vehicle for handheld radios.

Through that four-year contract, the Navy wants to acquire Type 1-certified, software-defined, handheld radios for use in several types of operational missions.

Harris and Thales also are the awardees of a $391 million contract to provide handheld and backpack radio kits to U.S. Southern Command.
