Salient Federal Solutions has appointed two U.S. Air Force veterans, holding nearly 45 years of transportation leadership experience, to leadership positions in the company’s transportation and logistics software engineering division.

The company said retired Col. James Patterson will serve as vice president and retired Lt. Col. Derek Oliver as chief technical liason, with both supporting Salient’s programs at U.S. Transportation Command and the Defense Logistics Agency.

This division is under the firm’s federal mission support business unit, led by Senior VP Tom Pettit.

Before joining Salient, Patterson served as CEO of Pyramid Healthcare Corp.

During his 25-year Air Force career, the company says Patterson helped TRANSCOM carry out $2 billion in transactions within the supply chain and managed large information technology logistics programs.

At TRANSCOM, his leadership positions include program manager system for managing personal property and household goods, program manager for the evacuation system regulating command and control deputy program manager for the command’s Agile Transportation for the 21st Century program.

Oliver, a 20-year Air Force veteran, has served as a director at the U.S. Army Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, overseeing the Defense Department’s personal property program.

He also has served as commander of the 97th Logistics Readiness Squadron and the 586th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron in Arifjan, Kuwait.

In August, the company announced Dr. Robert Friedenberg as the new chief technology officer and also SVP for the commercial business unit.
