Science Applications International Corp. (NYSE: SAI) will work with the Defense Health Services System to add new types of medical information in the Blue Button system, the company announced Wednesday.

The company won a potential $11 million contract, which includes a six-month base period, two option years and a three-month transition period.

Goals of this project include giving patients more control over their own health record and medical history through the Blue Button initiative, said Steve Comber, a senior vice president and business unit general manager.

New records for Blue Button will include radiology results, vital signs, immunizations, outpatient discharge summary, surgical results, insurance and other patient information.

Civilian partners will receive that information through the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record exchange service, use it to reconcile information on active medications for download and printing and integrate it with a Veterans Health Administration personal health journaling system.

The company will also add mobile device access and appointment center features to Tricare Online.
