Oceus CEO Doug Smith on His Visit to Capitol Hill, Spectrum Sharing

Doug Smith

A 20-year communications industry veteran, Oceus Networks CEO Doug Smith has seen first-hand the evolution of broadband technology and its increasing presence in the government sector during his career.

Smith recently caught up with our sister site ExecutiveBiz to discuss how his company works with both the government and the GovCon community to implement the commercial technology in the defense and civilian sectors.

In September, Smith testified to a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on this topic, highlighting some of the company’s current projects and implications of the increasing use of broadband mobile devices.

During the hearing, he also addressed the problem of scarce spectrum resources available to both government and commercial users and how sharing could help alleviate the spectrum crunch and facilitate interoperability between the public and private sectors.

In the interview with ExecutiveBiz, Smith discusses his day on Capitol Hill and some of the other government and industry leaders who also testified to the subpanel.

Also, he looks at the mobile market and points out what he sees as the market’s biggest growth driver.
