The U.S. Air Force has awarded an estimated $106 million in contracts to continue developing a long-range radar for the branch, the Defense Department announced Monday.
Contractors will continue technology development work for the three-dimensional expeditionary long- range radar, review designs and demonstrate prototypes.
Awardees were:
- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT): $35, 980, 000
- Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC): $34, 748, 186)
- Raytheon (NYSE: RTN): $35, 195, 000
These three companies are also prime contractors on a proposed $3 billion foreign military sale of Apache helicopters and equipment to Qatar.
According to the Air Force, this radar will replace the current TPS-75 radar for detecting, identifying, tracking and reporting aircraft and missiles to theater commanders.
Work under the firm-fixed-price contracts will occur in Liverpool, N.Y.; Linthicum Heights, Md.; and Sudbury, Mass. through Nov. 20, 2013.
