Engility Corp. Completes Spinoff From L-3 Communications; CEO Tony Smeraglinolo Comments

Engility Corp., the former government services unit of L-3 Communications, has completed its spinoff into a standalone company under the EGL symbol on the New York Stock Exchange.

President and CEO Tony Smeraglinolo will lead the Chantilly, Va.-based pure-play professional and technical services contractor, which projects it will generate $1.6 billion in 2012 revenue with around 9, 000 employees serving customers in more than 140 countries.

“Today is a significant inflection point for our company, and we expect our independence to provide access to substantial opportunities we were previously constrained from pursuing by organizational conflicts of interest under L-3, ” Smeraglinolo said in the company’s first press release.

Engility lists its core offerings as SETA support, professional servies, education and training, operational support, logistics, international capacity development and linguistics.

Smeraglinolo will oversee an executive leadership team that features a mix of Engility veterans and newcomers from across government contracting.

Craig Reed

Craig Reed, the former senior vice president of strategy and corporate development at Dyncorp International, joined the firm in April and now serves in that same role at Engility.

He is a Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman alum that has also spent time in federal government leadership.

John Heller

John Heller is the former head of Harris IT Services and is now president of Engility’s professional services group.

He had previously led IT services’ Defense Department programs as vice president and general manager.

Michael Alber

Michael Alber joined Engility in June as chief financial officer from Alion Science and Technology, where he served as CFO.

His previous GovCon executive experience includes a stint as an SVP and group controller at SAIC Inc.

  • Thomas Miiller, SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary
  • Randall Redlinger, VP of business operations
  • Michael Dallara, VP of administration
  • Thomas Murray, VP of human resources
