Northrop Wins $262M for Navy Vertical Takeoff UAVs

Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE: NOC) has received a potential $262, 336, 248 contract action to provide the U.S. Navy with two vertical takeoff and landing tactical unmanned aerial vehicles, the Defense Department announced Monday.

The company’s systems sector will manufacture and test the aircraft in support of the Navy’s vertical UAV rapid deployment capability effort.

The Falls Church, Va.-based contractor will also provide the branch with six additional air vehicles and spare parts.

Forty-seven percent of the work will occur in Moss Point, Miss, 46 percent in San Diego and the rest in Yuma, Ariz.

The Pentagon expects the work to finish by May 2014 and the Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md. is the contracting activity.

Contract funds totaling $24, 890, 203 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

The Air Force recently selected the company to provide logistics support for the Global Hawk UAV under a $54 million contract modification.
