Raytheon Wins $45M Army Sense, Warn Radar Contract

Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN) has won a $45.5 million U.S. Army contract to build prototype sense and warn radars, the company announced Tuesday.

The company said the contract is a follow-on to the company’s ongoing work for systems the Army uses to defend against rockets, mortars and artillery.

The Waltham, Mass.-based missile maker will provide long-lead material and subsystems for Ku Band Multi-Function RF System Sense and Warn radars.

Glynn Raymer, vice president of combat and sensing systems, said the radars reuse existing technology.

The company will build the radars in 2012 for the Army’s missiles and space program executive office.

The company tested, developed and deployed a low quadrant sense and warn system within 14 months.

The Army will receive 18 more of those systems within the first half of 2012.
