Quest Software Names Vinny Smith CEO as Doug Garn Steps Down

Quest Software‘s (NASDAQ: QSFT) board of directors elected chairman Vinny Smith CEO, the company announced Tuesday.

Smith will succeed current CEO Doug Garn, who is stepping down after three years for health reasons, according to Quest board member Paul Sallaberry.

Garn will serve as vice chairman of the board and Smith will continue serving as board chairman effective immediately, according to the company release.

Smith previously served as Quest’s CEO from 1997 to 2008 and has served as executive board chairman since October 2008.

Quest said Smith will focus on evolving the company’s strategic information technology management solutions for:

  • database and Windows servers
  • performance monitoring
  • identity and access
  • user workspace

During Smith’s previous CEO tenure, Quest said he lead the company’s efforts to increase its footprint in database development and infrastructure management.

Smith also led the company’s efforts to assemble products for virtualization and cloud computing.

Smith has served on the board since 1998.
