The U.S. Education Department is seeking ideas on how to transfer several of its system to cloud computing, according to a request for information posted Nov. 18.
The RFI asks for ideas for how to implement infrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service for the department’s central automated processing system, known as EDCAPS.
The RFI states the EDCAPS system has five components:
- Financial management support software
- Grants management system
- Contracts and purchasing support system
- Travel management system
- Nortridge loan system
The department is accepting responses through Dec. 12. Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) runs the department’s current system, which uses software from IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL).
