SAIC, Red Hat Collaborate on DOD Cloud Platform, Adoption

Following a recently announced cybersecurity partnership with McAfee,  SAIC (NYSE: SAI) has embarked on a second collaboration with Red Hat Inc. (NYSE: RHT) to develop cloud computing technologies for the Defense Department, contractors and other businesses.

The companies will work to capitalize on open source technologies and introduce commercial patterns and practices that reduce costs and create a more agile environment for DOD.

One primary goal will be to assist DOD in overcoming slow downs in cloud adoption.

The companies will work to develop RedHat’s CloudForms and OpenShift platform-as-a-service cloud platform at SAIC’s advanced computing engineering laboratory in North Charleston, S.C.

RedHat said in an announcement that the ACE Laboratory will support “an open community” for public and private cooperation focused on solving complex operational and computational problems.

“Using our ACE Lab, SAIC experts work with customers to develop advanced engineering solutions for some of our nation’s most significant cyber and software challenges, ” said Jim Thigpen, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.

“With Red Hat on our team, we’re continually finding ways to use our expertise to help keep customers a step ahead of the curve when it comes to cloud computing, ” he added.
