Randy Wotring, URS Federal Services

URS‘ (NYSE: URS) IT business URS-Apptis has obtained an authority to operate its FedCloud.com service portal, which provides infrastructure as a service to the U.S. government.

Government agencies can now more easily purchase cloud computing infrastructure using a blanket purchase agreement for IaaS from the General Services Administration.

The service can be accessed through GSA procurement resources, such as apps.gov.

FedCloud.com is built on the Amazon web services infrastructure technology platform and enables measuring of service usage, service availability and system performance.

The award means the service has completed the assessment and authorization process in accordance with the Federal Information Security Management Act moderate security level.

“Government agencies now can fully reap the benefits of cloud computing, including the ability to ramp-up or scale-down resources as needed while paying only for what is used, ” Randy Wotring, URS’ president of federal services. “This is crucial to enabling the government to better serve the American people and takes the ‘cloud first’ policy to a new level.”
