Lockheed, Finmeccanica, Cobham Team to Work on Air Traffic Services Effort

Lockheed Martin, Finmeccanica – through its U.K. company SELEX Systems Integration – and Cobham have agreed to form Fusion Air Traffic Management, which will address Project MARSHALL.

Formerly known as the Joint Military Air Traffic Services  program, MARSHALL is a major air traffic services project for U.K.’s Ministry of Defence. It will provide long-term air traffic management capability for all the MOD’s main bases, airfields and air weapon ranges in the U.K. and overseas. The initiative will also reduce costs for MOD over the 22-year lifetime of the program through enhanced efficiencies, economies of scale and innovation.

The teams selected the name Fusion to “reflect the very best of each of the three organizations for the benefit of the MOD, ” said Stephen Ball, Lockheed Martin’s U.K. chief executive.

“We believe that together, we are best placed to understand the technical complexities and commercial challenges of the program and then reliably deliver safe and innovative solutions that will add real value, ” he added.

Cobham U.K. Managing Director of Aviation Services Des Taylor said Fusion has been carefully created to ensure that each company also brings a particular expertise.

“For more than 25 years, Cobham has provided the MOD with a wide range of managed services and Cobham – through Fusion – will provide Project MARSHALL with leadership in the support solution and field service delivery, ” he added.
