ITT Makes Strides as a ‘Global Citizen’

ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT) released its 2009-2010 Global Citizenship Report, which sees the firm making progress in the realms of environmental, social and governance areas.

“Our strong focus on global citizenship is vital to both our stakeholders and our long-term business strategy, ” said Steve Loranger, ITT’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “We are proud of our global efforts to consistently integrate environmental, social and governance considerations into our daily operations.”

The firm notes 31 percent energy reduction over the past five years.  Water use is down 27 percent, hazardous-waste generation by 46 percent and intensity of greenhouse-gas emissions by 51 percent.

According to the firm, “ITT is targeting an additional 15 percent reduction in all of these areas over the next five years. Furthermore, ITT reports that by the end of 2010 its signature corporate citizenship program, ‘ITT Watermark, ‘ will have provided access to safe water and sanitation to 500, 000 people and that by 2013, the program aims to reach 1 million more people through a $10.5 million pledge. ”
