Harris to Support Commissary Network Operations

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) won a $35 million contract to deliver network operations support, working with the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) to distribute affordable commissary goods to U.S. military personnel worldwide.

The contract, which includes a five-month base with four one-year options, is a follow-on to the company’s successful completion of a six-year contract with the agency.

According to Harris, nearly 12 million customers in military communities around the world rely on local commissaries for groceries and other supplies. Harris network infrastructure support, management and maintenance provide the backbone of DeCA’s commissary system.

“The integrity and reliability of the infrastructure are paramount to fulfill DeCA’s objectives of providing easy-to-use, accessible services worldwide, ” said John Heller, vice president and general manager, Department of Defense Programs, Harris IT Services. “Our secure network prevents unauthorized disclosure of data and access to sensitive business, personnel and customer information.”
