Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced late last week that Turkish Airlines has selected the SmartTraffic system, which enables the newly developed Airbus Airborne Traffic Situational Awareness (ATSAW) system. The system provides pilots with information on air traffic in the area along with enabling better route planning, which can conserve fuel on transoceanic flights.
John Bolton, Honeywell President of Air Transport and Regional business, said “ATSAW and Honeywell’s SmartTraffic technology increases safety and situational awareness by displaying more surrounding aircraft and more information than Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS)-only systems. ATSAW enables flight path changes to smoother air for fuel savings and offers enhanced visual separation on approach so that higher volumes of aircraft can land safely.”
