Former Secretary of Homeland Security and current head of the Chertoff Group, Michael Chertoff, recently spoke on NBC’s Meet the Press on the recent attempted terrorist attack and what it demonstrates about US counter terrorist efforts. Mr. Chertoff believes that the recent incident actually reveals that the US is becoming increasingly successful at counter terrorism. In order for terrorists to launch nearly successful attacks against the US, they are forced to use new operators that have little experience and little skill. He also highlighted his belief that, following a review of the incident, the question between privacy and security will again be brought to the foreground in the debate of airline and counter terrorist security.
