Contract Award- QinetiQ – $19.77 Million – U.K.

The British Defense Ministry has awarded QinetiQ a contract worth approximately $19.77 million to support ongoing operations in Afghanistan with its robot technologies.

Under the deal, QinetiQ will deliver its Dragon Runner robots, which are designed to be transported by backpack and equipped with the capability of climbing stairs and opening doors.

Mary Carver, a business representative of QinetiQ Technology Solutions, said “With this very important contract and our work with the United Kingdom and U.S. military, Dragon Runner is set to become a vital tool in military campaigns throughout the world.”

Carver added that the majority of the 3, 000+ military robots QinetiQ has delivered to its customers are being used to disable roadside bombs; however, there is an increased demand for military surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as for homeland security and specialist intelligence operations.
