Boeing’s DIRECTV 12 Satellite is Operating Normally

DIRECTV 12, Boeing’s 702 commercial satellite, received its first on-orbit signals earlier this morning, indicating that the satellite is operating normally.

“Yesterday’s launch marks the 10th satellite Boeing has built and launched for DIRECTV, as well as the 22nd Boeing 702 satellite to fly in space, ” said Boeing vice president and general manager of Space and Intelligence Systems, Craig Cooning.

Boeing’s DIRECTV 12 is scheduled for handover in early 2010. DIRECTV 12, along with DIRECTV 10 and 11, will expand the broadcasting of HDTV across the continental US as well as Hawaii and Alaska.
