News- Lockheed Martin Begins IT Apprenticeship Program

Lockheed Martin announced yesterday the launch of an IT apprenticeship program for local high schools in northern Virginia. The program is meant to provide mentoring and technical training to develop local area students into skilled IT professionals.

The program was originally started in 2002 in Pennsylvania and has received multiple awards on the local, state and federal level. The program hires high school juniors who work towards an IT specialist certification. After graduation, students are often hired directly into Lockheed Martin and  work while they are encouraged to pursue further educational opportunities.

Monica McManus, VP of engineering at Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems and Global Services- Intelligence, said “This program demonstrates the commitment we have to education. It’s a proven method of providing valuable on-the-job training and skill, and eventually job placement, for underrepresented youth in our community.”
