Melissa Hathaway Releases Article on Five Cyber Myths

Melissa Hathaway, former  senior advisor to the DNI, Cyber Coordination Executive and Acting Senior Director for Cyberspace for the NSC, has released an article on ‘Five Myths About Cybersecurity.’ The article highlights the need to break down some of the myths that surround cyberspace in order to move towards more effective cybersecurity. The myths include:

1) Consumer protection exists in cyberspace

2) Firewalls and virus scanners protect my computer and my enterprise

3) My government has the solution and will protect me

4) Physical assets are more valuable than information

5) Laws are keeping pace with technological innovation
