Illinois Governor’s Award for Continuous Improvement in Environmental Sustainability Awarded to Harris Corp

Harris Corporation has received the 2009 Illinois Governor’s Award for Continuous Improvement in Environmental Sustainability. The ongoing efforts to be ‘green’ at the Quincy, Illinois manufacturing facility led to the award.

This is the fifth award Harris Corp. has received for its efforts to being more environmentally friendly. Several of the achievements leading to the award include:

1) the consumption of non contract cooling water was reduced by around 18 million gallons a year

2) sludge volumes were reduced by around 75 percent.

3) consumption of sodium hydroxide was cut 75 percent.

Chris Parsons, VP of operations and supply chain for Harris Broadcast Communications, said “We take the responsibility of environmental stewardship very seriously. Our workforce is always looking at new ways to improve operations. This, in turn, improves the quality of the products we develop and the overall cost-effectiveness.”

According to Brian Cabeceiras, VP of Strategic Marketing and Technology for Harris Broadcast Communications, working towards improving sustainability is a key goal of Harris Corp. “We strive to be recognized as a company that exhibits a strong commitment to promoting a sustainable future.”
