BAE Systems awarded contract to provide Light Armored Vehicles

The US Army has awarded BAE Systems a contract to provide Iraqi Light Armored Vehicles for the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and the Interior. The contract, worth $59 million, is for 109 second generation Iraqi Light Armored Vehicles and 10 Mine Roller kits.

BAE Systems will serve as the prime contractor and Spartan Chassis and Force Protection will serve as subcontractors. Delivery is expected to begin in May 2010 with final deliveries in October 2010.

Mark Signorelli, VP and general manager of New Vehicles and Amphibious Systems, said “This is a survivable, mobile and capable light armored vehicle that will help facilitate the successful transfer of missions from U.S. forces to Iraqi forces and enhance the nation’s efforts to strengthen the Iraqi military. We are pleased to provide the Iraqi Light Armored Vehicles designed to meet the needs of the Iraqi military forces.”
