News – Harris Corporation Completes Testing for Navy

Harris Corporation has successfully completed testing of a Satellite Communications terminal for the Navy. The SATCOM will provide personnel on surface ships access to broadband services and the Internet.

Based on the contract, Harris Corporation is responsible for providing 55 satellite communication terminals. The contract, awarded in 2008, has a ceiling of $77 million. Harris Corporation was able to deliver the first unit within six months of being awarded the contract. President of Harris Defense Programs, Wes Covell, said “This represents a new Navy SATCOM capability that will provide the most advanced communications services available to deployed personnel.” The program is meant to reduce the amount of time it takes to deliver critical warfighting abilities.
