Diversity Journal has listed Dr. Sharon Hays, vice president of the Office of Science and Engineering for CSC’s North American Public Sector line of business, among the “Women Worth Watching in 2010.” Hays was recognized for her leadership, achievements and for being a mentor to future generations of men and women in the workplace.
“The gift of mentorship is one I’ve tried to pass on to others, in part by trying to help dispel the notion that the pursuit of scientific study is a one-way ticket to a life spent isolated in a laboratory, ” Hays said. “In reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth, and the demand for technically skilled individuals with well-honed critical thinking skills will only strengthen in the high-tech, global economy that exists today.”
President of CSC’s North American Public Sector line of business James W. Sheaffer called Hays’s inclusion on the list a “well-deserved acknowledgement, ” and added that the combination of Hays’s willingness to share her knowledge and expertise with others and her valuable contributions to CSC’s growth “make Sharon truly deserving of this award.”
Prior to joining CSC in February 2009, Hays was associate director and deputy director for science in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In her position, she led the strategic direction for all OSTP activities related to a range of science initiatives, advised White House offices on environmental and security policies, and led the U.S. delegation to the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. She holds a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from University of California, Berkeley and received a doctorate in biochemistry from Stanford University.
Hays is one of 87 influential business women nationwide who were nominated by their colleagues, peers and mentors for the “Women Worth Watching in 2010” honor.
