Contract Award – Lockheed Martin – $17.8 Million – Air Force

The US Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin a $17.8 million contract to upgrade the software on the A-10C close support fighter. This is the third upgrade, with a target date of 2011, that will be administered by Lockheed Martin, following scheduled upgrades in 2009 and 2010.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will upgrade software to better integrate communications and situational awareness capabilities. The upgrade will increase weapons delivery along with improving vehicle-pilot interface.

Roger Il Grande, program director for the A-10 program, said “This software upgrade is another critical achievement in the continued modernization of a proven weapon system. Armed with these latest enhancements, A-10C pilots can more quickly access the information they need to prevail on the battlefield.”
