Led by Honorary Chair Kay Kapoor, the Women’s Center will celebrate its 35th anniversary with many of the federal IT community’s most powerful members on Nov. 6. The anniversary celebration will take place at the Gannett Corporate Headquarters in McLean, Va.
Since its inception, the Women’s Center has paved the way for women, children and their families on their journey to insight, education and independence. Kapoor (Lockheed Martin), and Vice Chairs Sally Turner (CGI) and Carla Bousquin Davies are leading the planning committee, comprised of industry and government executives. The anniversary benefit will celebrate the Center’s ongoing commitment to the community and help secure the additional resources necessary for the Center to continue serving it.
“The Women’s Center provides a critical safety net for our families and communities, ” Kapoor, vice president of Lockheed Martin Washington Operations. “Over the years, the Center has provided thousands of hours of service to just as many clients. Whether it’s family, friends, employees or co-workers, we all know individuals who can benefit from The Women’s Center’s counseling, career, financial and education programs. I see the anniversary event as an opportunity for all of us to leverage our networks and give back to the community by helping fuel an organization that is truly impacting the daily lives of so many.”
“The Women’s Center is honored that so many industry and government executives share our passion and are leading the efforts to celebrate our 35th anniversary, ” said the Women’s Center executive director Vicki Kirkbride. “Corporations are increasingly recognizing the importance of providing mental health services in the community — and we need their continued support to provide these crucial services. In 2008 alone The Women’s Center provided 36, 000 hours of direct client service. Of the total service hours, 26 percent (9, 450 hours) were provided to 1, 600 clients for free or reduced-fee. Your support helps us to continue providing these essential services.”
