Harris Corp. leaves 2009 International Broadcasting Convention with two awards

Earlier this week, Harris Corporation was recognized for its excellence in the technology industry with two awards at the 2009 International Broadcasting Convention (IBC2009) convention in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The company won TV Technology Europe magazine’s STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award for its new cost-effective X50â„¢ frame synchronizer/converter — a single-channel platform that delivers exceptional quality and functionality. It also includes the X85â„¢ and X75â„¢ platforms. The X50 features up/down/cross conversion with optional 1080p 3 Gb/s, eight analog and four AES inputs and outputs, and 16 channels of embedded audio processing. Included as standard are color correction, closed caption/teletext capabilities, control and monitoring via a built-in Web server, support for Active Format Description (AFD) and two fully controllable Aspect Ratio Converters. The energy-efficient X50 processor is ideal for a range of broadcast workflows — from small stations and OB vans to production studios and networks.

Harris also was honored with Broadcast Engineering magazine’s Pick Hit award for its Predator II-GXâ„¢, which is a complete HD control and monitoring solution available in a 1 or 2RU frame. It offers built-in autosensing support for multiple input standards, as well as options for graphics input display and integrated audio monitoring.

“Broadcasters came to IBC2009 looking for technology solutions that would allow them to do more with less, ” said Harris Broadcast Communications president Tim Thorsteinson. “Our new X50 and Predator-II GX products were specifically designed to enable broadcasters to operate more efficiently, lower their expenses and increase revenue streams, while still providing the highest levels of performance and functionality. Winning these prestigious industry awards for some of our newest products underscores the value of the Harris commitment to developing highly interoperable and cost-effective products that create efficiencies that today’s broadcasters need to stay competitive.”
