The
Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics has been awarded a $21.6 million contract modification by the U.S. Navy for material procurement and  repairs on the USS Hartford, a Los Angeles-class attack submarine.With the modification, Electric Boat will perform off-hull fabrication of the port retractable bow plane as well  off-hull fabrication in order to restore the submarine to full-service condition.
The USS Hartford (SSN-768) was damaged in a collision with the USS New Orleans San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock (LPD-18) on March 20th, 2009 in the Strait of Hormuz.
The contract was originally awarded May 21st, with the new modification the contract is valued at $37.4 million. The work will be performed Gorton, Conn and Quonset Point, RI and is expected to be completed by January of 2010.
