Alion Wins $1.5 Million Modeling and Simulation Contract

Friend-or-foe identification is a vital part of defending America’s interests in the air combat theatre, and the DoD has contracted with Alion to provide system-level configuration management, and certification of interoperability and minimum performance standards of the new Mark XIIA Mode 5 IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) technology.

Under supervision from Warner Robins Air Force Base in Houston County, Georgia, Alion will provide modeling and simulation support for the new Mode 5 IFF to determine whether the new model meets the objectives of providing increased capacity and efficiency without diminishing safety.

Additionally, because the new system uses radio waveforms, Alion M&S support will determine compatability of the new system  existing Air Traffic Control (ATC) standards and does not interfere with mission-critical ATC signals.  The Alion-operated MSIAC provides broad support in modeling and simulation throughout the federal government.
