James Trainor, formerly assistant director of the cyber division at the FBI, has joined Aon’s (NYSE: AON) risk solutions business as senior vice president of cyber solutions group.

Aon said Monday Trainor will work through Aon Risk Solutions’ office in New York and help the company establish a cyber strategy for clients through collaboration across system integration, consulting, technology, and risk transfer areas.

“As the FBI’s foremost expert in cybersecurity, Jim brings unparalleled experience and knowledge that will be invaluable to clients as they evaluate and address their cyber exposures, ” said Mike O’Connor, CEO of Aon Risk Solutions.

Trainor was appointed cyber division assistant director at the bureau in August 2015 after he served as deputy assistant director of the FBI’s cyber operations branch.

The 20-year FBI veteran held domestic and international assignments in which he oversaw counterintelligence, national security, counterterrorism and cybersecurity operations.

Trainor served as a military intelligence officer within the U.S. Army for nearly four years before he joined the FBI in 1996 as a special agent.
