Lockheed-Built Asteroid Sampling Spacecraft to Launch in September


lockheed martinTYSONS CORNER, VA, Aug. 23, 2016 — The Lockheed Martin-built (NYSE: LMT) Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security-Regolith Explorer spacecraft is scheduled to launch Sept. 8 to begin its mission to collect samples from the asteroid Bennu, Executive Gov reported Monday.

NASA said Thursday OSIRIS-REx will work to return the samples to Earth to inform scientific study on the formation of planets, the beginning of life and the potential impact of asteroids to the Earth.
