General Atomics Provides Sensors to Aid University’s Early Tornado Detection Research


General AtomicsTYSONS CORNER, VA, Aug. 24, 2016 — General Atomics‘ electromagnetic systems subsidiary has delivered 20 Infrasound Collection Element small sensors to the University of Alabama in Huntsville to aid the university’s early tornado detection research and real-time tornado tracking efforts, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

The sensors are designed to collect radar-independent “infrasound” data to support storm path predictions and increase warning lead times during extreme weather, General Atomics said Monday.
