Juergen Mueller, who joined SAP (NYSE: SAP) in 2013, has been appointed as chief innovation officer at the Walldorf, Germany-based enterprise software maker.

He will also continue to oversee the SAP Innovation Center Network and serve as managing director of SAP Labs Berlin to help grow the company’s presence in the German capital, SAP said Friday.

Mueller was previously a co-representative of Professor Hasso Plattner’s research chair at the Hasso Plattner Institute for software systems engineering in Potsdam, Germany, before he joined SAP three years ago.

The SAP Innovation Center Network’s charter is to initiate fresh markets and disruptive technologies such as machine learning, blockchain and future enterprise applications for SAP.
