Huntington Ingalls Awarded Potential $3B Navy Amphibious Assault Ship Contract


Huntington Ingalls HIIHuntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) has received a potential $3.1 billion from the U.S. Navy to proceed on the planning, engineering and procurement of long lead time materials for an amphibious assault ship.

The Defense Department said Thursday HII will conduct work in Mississippi, Wisconsin, California, Georgia, Pennsylvania and other locations to support the LHA 8 assault ship.

LHA 8 is a future amphibious warfare ship HII will built to support support vertical and short takeoffs and landings, short takeoff vertical landing and vertical takeoff and landing tilt-rotor and rotary-wing aircraft operations.

The ship will also be built with a well deck for various types of watercraft.

DoD noted the Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate $272 million from fiscal 2016 Navy shipbuilding and conversion funds for the work to be performed through June 2017.
