Airbus Awarded $127M German Armed Forces Satellite Comms Contract; Evert Dudok Comments

airbus logoAirbus‘ defense and space business has received an estimated $127 million contract to provide commercial satellite communication services to the German armed forces through 2023.

The German armed forces will use C- and Ku-band transponders for voice and data applications in Germany, between main overseas bases and for Navy vessels, Airbus said Tuesday.

Evert Dudok, head of the communications, intelligence and security business line at Airbus DS, said the combination of leased commercial systems and military satellites works to support requirements in resilience, flexibility and cost.

Airbus was recently selected to operate in-orbit the COMSATBw1 and COMSATBw 2 military satellites and a teleport and associated networks in Weilheim, Germany.

The company developed and deployed the German armed forces’ SATCOMBw system and has provided satcom services since 2006.
